Abstract
In Douglas Adams' novel "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" he describes the Babel fish, a fish which you are supposed to stick into your ear. It then works as a universal interpreter and can take utterances spoken in one language and instantly translate them into speech in some other language. What do we need to do in order to be able to build a device with the same general functionality?
